If you have a particular interest in the large raptors and birds of prey that can be found in mountainous regions, then spend the afternoon at the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. Just 65 miles west of Mountain Home near Murphy, this nature preserve is home to roughly 800 nesting raptors. While not the whole park is accessible to the public, you can still hike along one of the trails and keep your eyes on the skies to catch a glimpse of some of these magnificent creatures. With 10 different species commonly spotted in the park, you may see an agile red-tailed hawk, a clever turkey vulture, or maybe even an enormous golden eagle.
