Luis and Robyn Valdez are newer Outdoorsy owners. They’ve already had two bookings and are doing great with the platform, but this is far from their first rodeo. You see, the couple has been renting RVs outside of Outdoorsy for a while now. “Since we started renting in July of 2021, we have had 23 or so rentals,” Robyn shares with us.
But how did the couple get started? “After we purchased our first RV, we started looking for campsites in locations we wanted to visit,” she explains. “We quickly learned that they don’t come easy! We began to find that we had money going out (in the form of RV payments) but we weren’t getting anything out of it because we hadn’t booked sites multiple months in advance and thus couldn’t truly use the RV.
“We had become a little obsessed with looking at RVs for sale before purchasing our first, so we kept seeing ads even after we bought ours,” she continues. “We came across a comment in one that suggested the owner list it for rent, and the lightbulb went off! A business opportunity! We rarely pass up a good business opportunity, so we started to investigate the possibilities, and here we are.”
Their business took off, and their success renting elsewhere was awesome — but it wasn’t enough for the Valdez family. They wanted to expand and make use of the awesome systems Outdoorsy has in place. “We chose to list on Outdoorsy because we were excited about the opportunity to work with Wheelbase, and Wheelbase works with Outdoorsy, so it’s a great opportunity for us to build our client base and continue getting referrals.”
So far, this has been an excellent move, and if things continue to go well, the couple is even looking to expand their fleet of three RVs sometime in 2022.
They also run a YouTube channel, sharing their experiences with others in hopes it will help them see the same kind of success. Bout That Life is an excellent resource for RV owners looking to get into the rental business.
Yes, Robyn and Luis’ YouTube channel is full of great advice for those looking to run an RV rental business. That said, you don’t have to watch any videos to get the couple’s number one piece of advice for folks who are new to the business, as they happily shared it with us:
Go for it! It was a little scary starting off, and we have learned a lot the hard way, but ultimately, it’s one of those things you’ll learn as you go, and there are lots of great online communities to reach out to and ask questions for help.
