With football season in full swing, tailgating is the name of the weekend game. Tailgating in an RV is the way to go, and virtually all of the major college stadiums have RV-friendly facilities.
Here’s a special list of seven major southern colleges known for their football—and their great food. Secure a win of your own this weekend and whip up these state specialties at your next tailgate.
Tailgating Food for College Football Appetites
University of Alabama Crimson Tide: The legend of Bear Bryant lives on here. If you’re going to be tailgating, the hit of your tailgating food will be smoked catfish with some Sriracha tartar sauce.
University of Arkansas Razorbacks: SOOOIE is the call, and serve either pulled pork sandwiches or barbecued pork ribs. You won’t go wrong with either.
University of Tennessee Volunteers. The “Vols” are one of the most storied southern college teams. Your tailgating food should include a goodly portion of sweet potato biscuits and plenty of ham.
University of Florida Gators. When it comes to Florida football, they are all measured to the Florida Gators, and when it comes to tailgating, Gator Bait salsa and chips is a must for any tailgating menu.
Louisiana State University Tigers. Since 1896, LSU has been the premier college in Louisiana, and before the game, chicken and gumbo sausage potato salad is a real treat for any tailgating menu.
University of Southern Mississippi Gnewen Eagles. The great quarterback legend Brett Favre is a Southern Miss alumni, and fried spicy hot chicken wings are a tailgaters delight to munch on when tailgating there.
Southern Methodist University Mustangs. In Texas everything is bigger, and so is the tailgating at SMU. Texas also means beef, so burgers, steak fajitas and beef ribs all make terrific tailgating food.
Remember, getting to a tailgate party is easy with Outdoorsy—especially if you get an RV delivered to the stadium.
